Fox's Boot Range: Which One's Right For You?
If you've been putting off replacing your boots, now's a good time to have a look at what Fox have on offer. Their line-up is split into three: Comp, Motion, and Instinct. Same DNA, different price points, and each one's built for a slightly different rider.
Comp — the honest workhorse
The Comp is Fox's entry point, and it's a genuinely solid one. You still get the four-buckle closure, a shin plate and toe/heel protection, and a grippy outsole (Fox call it Positac) that holds up well on the pegs. It won't have quite the same flex or lockdown feel as the boots above it, but for club days, trail riding, or anyone just getting into the sport, it covers the basics without cutting corners where it matters.
There's also a Comp X version with a bit more protection built in, plus youth and women's fits, so there's a decent spread of sizing whichever Comp you land on.

Motion — the one most riders will actually want
The Motion sits in the middle, and it's the boot Fox brought in specifically because there was such a big gap between their entry and top-tier options. It uses a step up in grip compound (Duratac) over the Comp, along with the same hinge system that limits how far your ankle can bend backwards or forwards in a crash, which takes a lot of the guesswork out of protecting yourself without needing to think about it.
For most weekend racers and regular trail riders, this is the sweet spot. You're getting proper race-boot features — good ankle support, a secure buckle system, and a boot that flexes naturally with your riding style — without paying for the very top tier.

Instinct — built for the front of the pack
At the top sits the Instinct, and it's aimed squarely at riders who want the best protection and feel money can buy. It uses Fox's highest grip compound (Ultratac), a reworked fit that's been developed with input from actual pro riders, and it's built to feel practically broken-in from the first ride thanks to the hinge system doing a lot of the flex work for you.
It's a genuine investment, but if you're racing regularly or just want the most capable boot on your feet, it's hard to look past.

So which one do you actually need?
Honestly, it comes down to how often you ride and what you're doing on the bike. Comp if you're new or riding occasionally, Motion if you're a regular rider who wants proper protection without the top-end price tag, and Instinct if you're racing seriously or just want the best.
Whichever one suits you, it's worth trying a pair on and walking around in them before you buy — fit makes a bigger difference to comfort than people expect. Pop into the shop or have a look through our full boots collection to see what's currently in stock.
